Furrowed brow

August Bank Holiday Monday brought a new bee to my garden. After posting pictures on the UK Bees, Wasps and Ants facebook page an ID was suggested miles removed from my own attempts to get the group it belonged to, let alone the individual species.

Bloomed Furrow Bee Lasioglossum albipes

Armed with the names of two possible species I was able to draw on lots of (poor) photographs to narrow down exactly what it is. Mind you, having read the descriptions in the wonderful Field Guide to the Bees of Great Britain and Ireland* I had to look up no less than five words in one paragraph alone… talk about steep learning curves!

On the continuing theme of ‘variations’ here are another nasturtium and another geranium.
