I love this hardy plumbago Ceratostigma plumbaginoides… in high summer its green leaves are offset by the most stunning sky-blue flowers… now, before the leaves drop they turn this delicious deep red.
Nearby my tiny beech tree has turned to Autumn foliage… although the leaves generally do not drop until spring buds replace them.
Talking of spring buds, I’ve forgotten the name of this shrub… it smells like turpentine but has profuse flowers. I was surprised to find that it is already literally covered in buds!
Elsewhere, the lushness is still amazing, the calla lily that died back in late summer has regrown its leaves already.
I’ve said it before but osteospermums are terrific value here in the mild southeast. There is never a time when the garden doesn’t have some in flower. Even the windy, chilly and wet of this December they flourish.
