Old bee, new flower…
Gazania’s or African Daisies are also known as treasure flowers. The cultivars are often really gaudy, candy-striped affairs and all are bright colours. The flowers close when the sun goes down or in gloomy weather but open to full sun. Perhaps the blazing colour looks like uncovered treasure.
The flowers certainly attract pollinating insects and below are a Patchwork Leaf-cutter Bee Megachile centuncularis and a Common Green Bottle Fly Lucilia sericata on the fiery orange flowers of those particular plants.
